The prototype robotic obstacle installation being built to test field expansion devices. The top schematics illustrate obstacle movement from a top-down perspective of the ceiling-mounted system (above), and a side view (below). The obstacles can be programmed to act as moving as well as stationary obstacles and to move sideways relative to the path of the subject: (1) side collision, (2) frontal crossing, (3) frontal approach, (4) frontal by-passing, (5) rear by-passing, (6) rear cut-in (object moves from the rear and by passes the subject then cut-in). Bottom photos illustrate prototype obstacle unit launched from the ceiling and performing the frontal by-passing maneuver.
